This position performs under the direction and supervision of the Classification Lieutenant and monitors the facility’s program assignments and serves as the case manager for adjudication operations while the detainee is confined in the Curry County Detention Center. Provides close to general supervision to administrative personnel and is responsible for overall day to day administrative operations.

The captain will plan, organize and direct the activities in their assigned areas of responsibility of the Curry County Detention Center Facility to ensure the health, safety and welfare of detainees and the continuous safe and secure operations of the facility. Must show upright leadership skills, attend all supervisor meetings, make recommendations for improvement, deal with personnel issues and counsel and/or reprimand, when necessary, maintain reports and daily documentation, and be responsible for daily inmate movement and activities. This position supervises other supervisors. The position plans overall work objectives; established department goals and objectives; coordinates diverse work activities and programs; measures performance against goals and objectives.

    Min $66,594 - Max $99,891 The Assistant Detention Administrator works under the supervision of the Detention Administrator. This is an exempt position that is responsible for assisting with the safe operation adult detention center. Assisting with the accountability of the General Fund operating budget of the detention center. Duties include: assisting with the overall security, management, and operations of the facility; overall supervision of full-time employees; safe transportation of inmates to medical facilities and other facilities; budget development and management; kitchen and food services contractor, alternative sentencing program, and the outsourcing of overflow adult and juvenile inmates to other facilities.

    Min $87,377 - Max $131,066 The Detention Administrator works under the supervision of the County Manager. This is an at-will, unclassified position that is responsible for the safe operation of a 265-bed adult detention facility as well as approximately 71 adult detention personnel. Accountable for the General Fund operating budget which is projected as $6,838,142 for Fiscal Year 22/23. Duties include: overall security and operations of the facility; overall supervision of FTE; safe transportation of inmates to medical facilities and other facilities; budget development and management; kitchen and food services contractor, alternative sentencing program, and the outsourcing of overflow adult detainees. In addition, responsible for outsourcing Curry County juvenile inmates to other facilities and monitoring the length of stays and sentencing.

    Min $18.1438 - Max $27.2154 The Employee will be required to manage the intake, tracking, storage, accountability audits, and disposal of evidence submitted to the Curry County Sheriff’s Office evidence vault. This will include coordinating with the state crime labs and the District Attorney’s office to ensure that evidence is analyzed as needed and is prepared for trial. Will be required to travel outside of Curry County to deliver and pick up evidence as needed. Will be required to prepare destruction/disposal orders for items held in the property and evidence rooms that are no longer needed. Must be able to coordinate with prosecutors and defense attorneys to answer discovery requests promptly. The employee will manage the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (SORNA) program and may require home/employment checks of registered sex offenders.

  • Minimum Qualifications for Deputy Sheriff
    High School Diploma or GED Required Must be eligible to become certified by the New Mexico Law Enforcement Academy and pass all physical testing as a peace officer within the first 12 months of employment Ability to listen; understand and communicate verbally and written in English Vision correctable to 20/20 Must successfully complete pre-employment, drug screening and background check. Must have a valid driver's license with no more than (2) moving violations in the past (3) years. Must obtain a valid New Mexico driver's license within (6) months of employment. Must be able to qualify and maintain proficiency in firearms for both day and night.

  • How many detainees can the Curry County Detention Center house?
    The Curry County Detention Center facility consists of 262 beds. The facility includes a medical area, booking, sally-port, kitchen, laundry, visitation, exercise and multipurpose areas. Detainees are housed in 10 secure housing units. Most detainees share a cell with three other detainees.
  • Are the hours flexible?
    We have full time and part time positions available and college students are encouraged to apply, and we will work with your college schedules.
  • What are the Physical Requirements?
    Tasks Include but are not limited to: Ability to lift up to (60) pounds from ground to waist level. Approximately twice daily. Corrected vision and hearing within normal range. Ability to stand and walk up to (6) hours at one time and (12) hours total per day. Ability to sit for up to (4) hours at one time and (12) hours total per day. (Control room only) Ability to climb and descend three-step ladder on a minimal basis. Ability to buddy carry and inmate and detainee in case of emergency. Must be able to assist disabled inmates and detainees in showering and other personal needs. Ability to push/pull a disabled inmate or detainee in a wheelchair. Ability to carry (10) pounds on waist all day.

    Curry County Training Academy The Training Academy is responsible for delivering high quality training based on relevant, up-to-date, detention best practices that are aimed at developing high performing detention professionals. This training includes basic training for newly hired officers and staff. In addition, the Academy provides advanced training to all existing staff to ensure that the Curry County Adult and Juvenile Detention Departments are operating at the highest industry standards.
